Local Author to Keynote onboard USS Hornet -Celebration of "Fabulous Flying Females" during Living Ship Day

Join us as we honor women military aviators. At 1 p.m, local veteran U.S. Air Force Captain Graciela Tiscareño-Sato, author of bilingual children's book (illustrated by Castro Valley resident Linda Lens) Good Night Captain Mama/Buenas Noches Capitán Mamá will share her
experiences as a female Air Force aviator. In the Middle East, as a member of a
KC-135 refueling tanker aircrew, she flew patrols and enforced the Southern NO
FLY Zone in Southern Iraq after the conclusion
of Operation Desert Storm. Flying two or three combat sorties a day over and
near the city of Baghdad
to prevent Saddam Hussein’s air forces from killing Iraqi civilians earned her
crew the prestigious Air Medal.
