Bird Hike: On a Quest to Leave No Stone Unturned

If you are patient and let your eyes rest along the rocky levees and shoreline, you might be rewarded by spotting a turnstone.  Turnstones are small, busy shorebirds that have a specially suited chisel-like bill that helps it turn over rocks in search of invertebrate prey.  Meet at the first parking lot at the West Winton Trailhead in Hayward. Ages 12 and up. Fee: $5 per person. Visit www.haywardrec.org to register.
