Michael Barber, Neighbor

Hello, my name is Michael. I’ve been working in the food service industry for the last 10 years, from upscale restaurants to sports bars.  I decided to start this project after moving to San Leandro from Berkeley, and wanted to discover my neighborhood and community, and what better way to find out what’s out there than to go out and eat!  I’ve been a part of many Eat Local campaigns—with locally sourced produce, sustainably raised meat, and safely caught fish—but I feel what often gets over looked is the local business people doing their best to support their community.  Without these folks we’d all be eating unhealthy food at fast food chains, all day, everyday.  I also think I have a unique perspective in the fact that I pay attention to the front of the house aspect of the restaurant, not just what’s on the plate.

This blogger’s goal is to eat my way down E. 14^th St., from Broadmoor Blvd to Bayfair mall, stopping at every place that serves food, with friends, family, and hopefully you, to showcase all the diversity that San Leandro has to offer.  Feel free to drop me a line if you want to meet up, and talk about food business, community, or anything else under the sun.
