And, once again, an officer is involved in a shooting and the investigation lasts a lot longer thanRead More it would have for a regular taxpayer. The shooting, according to TV news, took place about 11 p.m. At 7, they were still carefully investigating. The investigation was expected to last another 4 or 5 hours. What is it with all of these officer involved shootings? Do they really need the shooting practice that bad that they have to kill people?
A pedestrian was injured when they were hit by an Amtrak train on Wednesday

I live off of Ashland and I was driving home when I saw the ambulance drive by. This is the secondRead More time I was driving home and a person was struck by a train. I don't know what they can do to stop people from walking on the tracks. It's a bad area right next to a high school.
Tiredofthecrap May 17, 2013 at 08:33 am
.05 is a bit extreme. I would really hate to go to jail and get the fines associated for a singleRead More beer with my lunch. There is drunk then there is having a drink and you should not be punished for the latter.
Gary Allsebrook May 14, 2013 at 11:29 pm
You can get busted for DUI at any BAC if the officer deciders you're impaired.
James Nelson May 14, 2013 at 10:25 pm
Those with Power can't even maintain under the current legal limit, you think they will allowRead More someone to lower it? LOL
Tom Abate (Editor) May 7, 2013 at 06:25 pm
It was hard to believe there had even been a fire. I could not smell smoke. And I even walkedRead More through the kitchen. Thank goodness for fire extinguishers. Have you checked yours lately?
Kari Hulac (Editor) May 7, 2013 at 06:20 pm
They make a mighty fine tequila, lime and triple sec on the rocks. Good for comfort food and loveRead More the funky glass light ceiling in entryway.
Robert Bruce Tucker May 7, 2013 at 06:06 pm
Whew! Not to be a downer or anything but I'm glad it wasn't the Fremont Dino's. I was just thereRead More yesterday and the food didn't taste bad as all.
Kenrick Edward Quamina May 9, 2013 at 08:12 pm
Kirsten and I worked at Mervyns in the Audit department several years ago. My heart feels heavy forRead More her loss. I am so sorry to hear this. She was indeed a very lovely and caring person.
Megan Talbot May 2, 2013 at 07:35 pm
I am devastated by our loss of Kirsten. She was a beautiful person, whom I have known since highRead More school. I will miss her and think of her often. My thoughts, prayers, and love go to her wonderful family. Megan Talbot
Carrie Wood May 2, 2013 at 06:19 pm
This is horrible. So very sad. My heart and prayers go out to her sons and family. This crime makesRead More no sense.
Walt Farnlacher May 1, 2013 at 11:29 pm
@Heidi...I'm with you on this. The time is long past for a ruling on this pedestrian death. Come onRead More CHP! This is where an independent group should be involved with the investigation as a sort of checks and balances. Foxes are guarding the chickens in Hayward.....
Heidi Zeitz May 1, 2013 at 10:59 pm
Wait for the facts? How long should the facts be waited on? How can everyone NOT make theseRead More assumptions, given the time that has passed since this man was killed? And I agree with Just Saying with exception of --- the pedestrian NOT always having the right of way --- I'm 46, been driving for 30 years and DMV has always pounded that in to our heads --- they DO have the right of way - if you don't think so, run one over and see what you're charged with....(within a day or two!) The investigation IS taking WAY too long-if the CHP has found NO REASON for the Deputy's running over two PEOPLE...SO? He still needs to be CHARGED with vehicular manslaughter and punished like any civilian would be...Why? BECAUSE...two people were HIT by the Deputy's car - his car was not hit by THEM.
Just Saying May 1, 2013 at 12:23 pm
Michael, you have posted several times in regards to this incident. You, just like the fat ass whoRead More makes movies, don't seem to gather your facts before writing. Thus your points, which could be valid, aren't taken seriously. The CHP investigates all collisions in unincorporated areas. The Sheriff's Office investigates all crimes in unincorporated areas. Ahern is the Sheriff, not the chief. The CHP Office that is investigating the collision is in Castro Valley, the collision happened in a part of unincorporated HAYWARD. The deputy has not been cleared of anything. Being that he was not intoxicated at the time of the collision, the worse he can be charged with is misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter. The same level of crime as shoplifting or battery. People always think that a pedestrian has the right of way; they don't. What is certain is that they always come out the loser in a collision with a car.
AmberStar Roberson April 24, 2013 at 06:21 pm
The man's name is VALDEMAR FLORES ROSAS. He was very much loved and respected! This is pureRead More negligence of the deputy, not only was Valdemar and innocent man walking home in the early a.m. but he was also IN A CROSSWALK! The Alameda County Sheriff's department has done NOTHING to assist his only 2 family members in his burial.... I quote "You do not qualify for any assistance or special programs because it was an accident" I am so appalled and almost ashamed to call myself American!
Jessica Gardner April 23, 2013 at 02:39 am
How horrible, they are trying to blame the victim, anything other than to take responsibility. DidRead More they do a drug or alcohol test on the deputy?
Nathan April 22, 2013 at 08:48 pm
kris smith April 29, 2013 at 08:46 am
Another example how law enforcement feel the rules don't apply to them...I also see them all timeRead More distracted while driving......the deputy should get the same punishment as any other driver would.
dj April 25, 2013 at 05:28 pm
Amber. It was very odd at the scene because nobody was allowed into the area at all. You need toRead More find someone who can help you sort this out. Also, stay on top of the media to help you find out what happened with the investigation at the scene. Don't give up.
Jessica Gardner April 23, 2013 at 02:40 am
It isn't fair call that lawyer Burris who is always suing the oakland pd
Nicholas Terry April 16, 2013 at 02:50 pm
To her family & friends, I am so very sorry for the loss of Ms. Sue; she had nothing to do withRead More her death - Boon Wang should be charged with voluntary vehicular manslaughter (given that he was driving like a moron), serve time in prison and stripped of his drivers license for 10 years, once released from prison. We should also charge people a fine for all the services involved in this accident.
John B. Healy May 13, 2013 at 08:42 am
David Ross: Cops make plenty of mistakes and should be held accountable. But how were they wrongRead More here? Barry's own family called them and when they arrived he pointed a gun at them. What were they supposed to do?
Nathan March 27, 2013 at 07:26 pm
He was a nice guy, at least the guy I knew. He would help me out occasionally at Pete's Ace mixingRead More up paint or finding something in the store. He must have just snapped one day, because I always knew him as pretty darn mild mannered. Usually smiling, even when he would be dragging his butt in after having a few to many the night before. I agree with you though. Drop the weapon (regardless if it's real or not) or get shot. I think he probably knew what he was doing.
Tax payer March 27, 2013 at 06:52 pm
Anyone hiding behind some bushes with what looks like a weapon. I sure in hell will shoot their assRead More if they dont put their weapon down. It sounds like HE wanted to commit suicide by having the 'cops' shoot him. He should of just shot himself and saved tax payers money. Now, we have to pay these officer in overtime most likely. Luckily, they killed him before he went off and committed a family suicide ordeal!!

My daughter was baby sitting at a house in the cordoned off area. She heard 3 gun shots then sirens.Read More She was really frightened. We were on the phone with her when the police came to the door and told her the suspect was in custody. We're grateful they did that, it sure brought the stress level down.
Jennifer Barton Hansen March 23, 2013 at 11:48 am
That area is still blocked off as of 7:30am.

I heard several shots of an automatic weapon around 7:35 and I live off of Dominic....

The Partition area, wide opened, is approx 12inches in height. A survivor said she squeezed to getRead More thru, so obviously it was not opened all the way by the driver to allow the women an escape-access! Also, Ive read that 3 survivors escaped thru the right back door..., so why couldnt the others? In the TV News pics, the Survivors sat calmly on the side of the road... looked numb & out of it? I would have been jumping, yelling, trying to stop traffic to help us! It was hard for me to see them just sitting there quietly..., were they intoxicated? In shock? I wish the driver had, in a 2 second flash, opened the Partition all the way down as he "jumped out to save his skin" & gone to the right side to secure the door open. The flames were left-sided rear. OR was he thinkg that more air/ O2 would have lit up fire more, OR was his electricity out by the Fire? DID he try breakg a rear window open w/ his shoe at least? All of it is puzz'ling & a tragedy that has so so many unanswered questions. We count on the Captain to help us..., but remember the sunk Greek cruise ship?? Captain got off & rowed away first!! My heart goes out to the deceased here, and survivors as well.

Mylinzi: I'd like to point out that Filipinos and Filipinas can definitely party and deeeefinitelyRead More drink, nurse or not.
Livermoronian May 10, 2013 at 12:56 pm
Why couldn't they open the door? That truly sucks, like they were locked inside their own deathRead More chamber. Had to crawl over and through the barrier between them and the driver???? I think that area should have the old fashioned pull up locks back there. The electric locks could fail if it was an electrical fire. Perhaps a mounted fire extinguisher inside the passenger area would have helped. New regulations in the 2014 limos!

Great story and not unusual for the Bland's. Great to hear & see the sharing.

Chris and Mabel are an inspiration. They have such a big heart and are true angels. I'm so blessedRead More to have them in my life. Love them very much.
sherry May 3, 2013 at 12:30 am
A beautiful couple with amazing souls! They change lives and give people hope in ways thatRead More reverberate beyond their immediate action.
Ken Briggs May 1, 2013 at 05:02 pm
yes , thats what I say , nice cousin , why didhe run for , he must of known the shooter . find hisRead More butt and puthim in jail til he tells what was going on .
Mike April 30, 2013 at 02:54 pm
Bunch of scumbags. I wish those idiots would learn to shoot better, then they'll just kill eachRead More other, instead of hitting bystanders all the time.
LESLIE FERNANDES April 30, 2013 at 02:11 pm
Nice cousin, leaves his bleeding, wounded cousin. It's obvious from the story that the runawayRead More cousin knew who shot at them.

If it looks like garbage, smells like garbage and acts like garbage... it is garbage.
Nadja Adolf May 2, 2013 at 04:45 pm
Here's the problem. Millions, if not billions of dollars have been invested to "helpRead More communities" - from food stamps, EBTs, TANSFA payments, recreation programs, subsidizing "community activists" with a tendency to blame everyone but the offenders, and on and on and on. It hasn't worked. It has created entire generations of people who refuse to take responsibility for their own actions and lives. It has subsidized cultural values that disparage those interested in academics and career development. It destroyed families, leading to fatherless boys who are far more likely to wind up in prison than others because their available role models are the thugs hanging on the corner. I suggest that we all pause, weep a tear for this young man's supposed impoverished, miserable background, and then toss him in jail. Remember, not all criminals come from "deprived" or "unhealthy" backgrounds. Remember the Billionaire Boys Club?
Nadja Adolf May 2, 2013 at 04:34 pm
There have been hardened criminals *younger* than age 18. Jesse Pomeroy comes to mind; Lee BoydRead More Malvo. Mary Bell. Author Anne Perry, originally known as Juliet Hulme. Choi. Seisaku Nakamura. Kazutaka Komori. Noura Jackson. Satarō Fukiage. Brian Draper and Torey Adamcik. Attina Marie Cannaday. Peter Woodcock. Note that drugs, alcohol, firearms, and even US residency or nationality are completely unconnected to the crimes committed by this international cast of juvenile villains. American, British, Canadian, Jamaican, Japanese, Korean, New Zealander - they're all here, They've used almost every weapon imaginable, although only one juvenile poisoner, Graham Young, is widely known - mainly since after being sent to Broadmoor as psychopathic (a psychopath or sociopath, not a psychotic) following his first crimes, he made use of the resources there to expand his knowledge of both chemistry and toxicology. Released as fully cured after nine years, he proceeded to happily resume his career as a poisoner.

They could put him up on the electronic billboards in Newark along the freeways.
Ken Briggs May 1, 2013 at 09:40 am
so put his mug shot out of some of those billboards along the highway 580 / 205 / etc
