That's Five Canyons! It's a mile and a half from the original and real Castro Valley.

Forget castro valley, while they are all arguing San Lorenzo pulls it together!

I was wondering if this was still going to happen after catching wind of this effort almost a year…Read More ago. I live near by and am excited to see something happening like this and can't wait to see how they intend to lease out the other part of the building. It would be nice to see some local food start up's selling their goods. The Cho family will have my support.

Hi Jessica,
Castro Valley is not a city. It is unincorporated. But that is a whole other testy issue…Read More for some.
There is a big difference between those two signs. Mc Donald’s went through the democratic permitting process and their sign was approved. Blvd. Burger could have chosen to participate in the democratic process but chose not to. A citizen lodged a complaint with code enforcement and Code enforcement responded and acted appropriately.
I believe that Blvd. Burger is going to apply or have applied and they will be going through the democratic process.

Sadly, Mr Phillips diatribe above is terribly ignorant and represents the misguided wish that…Read More government is the answer to all our problems. A representative governmet is one where we elect officials to represent our interests. The MAC is an APPOINTED board that is not elected and only answers to Mr, Miley. (While claiming to act in the public's interest). Sure you want there to be some consistency and coherence in city planning to promote the general welfare of the area. However, as far as I can see, Mr Michieli applied at numerous govt agencies for the proper permits and information, and was given a list of things he needed to do. Everyone at the government funded trough did THEIR job and got paid very well to do it; but no one put the pieces of the puzzle together until you have the mess you have today. How is anyone supposed to know all of the requirements? Mr Michieli is out a good sum of money, and every person that was there to 'help' him on the way still collects their fat paycheck and benefits. Look at your State government: swimming in debt, rules and regulations coming out its ears, tax rates through the roof, and STILL unable to build a bridge in 24 years and $6 BILLION+. The guy wants to open a Hot Dog Stand for gosh sakes. What else will you put there? Bulldoze the building and park a Taco Truck there Marc...then you are OK. You big government lovers are getting everything you deserve. Heaven help you if you ever want to build a small business and earn a living.

Hi Trish,
I am sorry that you misunderstood the Question and the Answer. It was in response to other…Read More posts above. Perhaps I could have been more clear.
I am going back some years ago, when I was a community activist opposed to route 238 being forced through Castro Valley, before Nate Miley was the Supervisor or I worked for him. If my memory is correct I believe it was in the 1990’s. Citizens from the unincorporated area were tired of fast food restaurants and did not want any more of them.
The Board of Supervisors in response to the community prohibited “drive through and walk up windows” to detour additional fast food restaurants from coming in. I believe this is true. You can ask the question at the MAC meeting and see what staff says.

Angel...sounds like you have personal issues that are not for this general forum...until you can…Read More spell and be literate! Rob Phillips...in an ideal bureaucracy.... your comment would fly...in this particular not so normalcase the rules and regulations have and continue to be a blur....and TC ....no Carry Outee could still be operating there if they wanted to be! And if Muzo's would have taken over within 30 days he would of been operating as we speak...because he would be grandfathered in to the new zoning regulations of no more walk -ups.....so go figure...
The county really just wants their vision for that property....redevelopment... not reality....Bob S....why do perpetuate this with your question?!....and mock ..by providing us with your own answer instead of supporting the local small businesses that what the community want...really Bob?!...does your question refer to those in our community who want fast food chain or Muzo's...come on now...stop mocking it...the county allows what it wants...with little regard ...I'm insulted by your question and the answer...we want quaint walk ups...not chain...actually

As for the adobe shopping center...even though I am against chain stores and the Fisher family's politics...I would have to say put a Gap and or an Old Navy. The cv'ers would eat that up

CV is unincorporated. Many want to legalize a city of CV. That will take revenue. That revenue will…Read More come from taxes. Businesses pay taxes. The thought of expanding the Park is heart pounding and warm but not real. We had a Metro store there which was excellent. The owner knew a great deal about cell phones and accessories. I was disappointed to see the store close. I would like to see some specialty stores move in. We have the basics up and down the Blvd. Maybe some kind of activity store or "gameroom" for young people. Some might say we do not need a place for young people to hang out. I disagree. We need an activity spot. Look at how many young people congregate in Adobe Park. Men's clothing, computer repair, reptile store, hat store, sports store.
anastasia21070 April 29, 2013 at 02:42 am
Agree. A place wher young children can play! A gymnastics center or boys/girls club.

The restauranters can't pay the high rents that the village and East CV Blvd are charging. Palomares…Read More cafe couldn't pay the high rent up there. The food trucks provide quality well priced food for a reasonable fee if any at all. Why is CV paying for TJ Maxx to break new ground when we have a perfectly good building sitting on the blvd where the old Daughtreys resided? Why don't we make the old Daughtreys bldg a marketplace?? I've called the chamber and promoted and was willing to help organize making that a marketplace. A one stop shop, fresh produce, cheese/wine shop, meat market, fish market.. etc: like in Oakland and Alameda.

Well, I have only been in cafes here in the Bay Area, and I'm a drug addict. To be quite honest,…Read More most of the frequent visitors are drug addicts as well. There is no truth to the reason that most of visit the cafe to check email or use the Internet access. We go there on the chance we may turn our $20 into $100. However, these places have security guard. The loitering laws are strictly enforced and by no means is it a haven for crime. In fact, the police use this place as a very successful venue to come collect the criminals that have warrants. Look, there's a lot of ways to look at this being both positive and negative. The laws are the laws. Just because someone found a loophole to make money doesn't make it illegal. This is America people. Capitalism. Remember? If the low life of the world didn't have here to go they'd be somewhere else where you snobs would be bitching about. Deal with it.

The San Leandro Police Chief, with the assistant of newly appointed City Attorney Pio Roda, tried to…Read More have the Council pass an emergency resolution a few months back that would ban "business centers" in San Leandro - defined (and I'm going on memory here) as any business that loaned or rented 5 or more internet-ready devices. So that meant that the Fedex store in town would have to close down, for one. The Council, fortunately, saw the folly of that scheme.
There is one of these centers at the end of my street. For months I didn't know what it was. It has not attracted crime, traffic, or anything noticeable at all. I can't even tell you if it still operates, given how quiet it's been all along.
I am personally not fond of gambling, but I don't see how the state can condemn gambling while running a lottery.
As for these businesses, I'm curious: do they charge customer sales taxes? That could help determine whether people are paying for a service (internet connectivity) and get a sweepstake entry as a reward, or they are actually gambling operations.
