CVSan General Manager Message

CVSan “Filter Float” Takes Third Place in Rodeo Parade

In this year's parade, we focused on the dangers of putting used motor oil down your drain.

My staff and I spent last Saturday morning marching in the 92nd Annual Rowell Ranch Rodeo Parade, and we were pleased to win a spot on the podium for our entry. We had a CVSan truck and Waste Management truck rolling, from which CVSan employees distributed oil recycling funnels, rags and sponges. We love getting the chance to see and shake hands with so many Castro Valleyans as we walk the parade route. We see individual citizens every day as we work in the community, but we meet only a few people a time that way. Seeing so many of our fellow citizens in the parade is a great chance to make a connection! Why is that connection so important? Because CVSan is the Castro Valley Sanitary District. This is our home as well as yours, and we want…

Castro Valley Community Park Veterans Memorial Moving Forward

There are plenty of spaces still left for names on the Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine stones for veterans, as well as bricks to be purchased by anyone, including businesses.

By Jim Uhlik There are still those in Castro Valley when asked: “Did you know that local veterans are building a veterans memorial in Castro Valley?” Even after two-plus years of work on the project — designing and collecting donations — the answer is sometimes: “No I did not!” So if you to have not heard about Castro Valley’s Veterans Memorial, then you have not been to Castro Valley Community Park lately. If you enter the park through the upper parking lot off of Quail Avenue, you will notice a fenced-off area where the sidewalks and curbs have been removed to make way for a handicap parking and a handicap entrance to the new memorial. So what is the next phase for the memorial? According to our project manager, grading and leveling of …

Well, Obama cut a lot of funding to the Lab and a lot of their research projects (which now the country is complaining we don't have enough research on certain medical conditions, energy things, etc.... wonder how that could have been saved?) and these people have to survive too. Unfortunately, most of these people cannot get jobs because they are OVER qualified. So, as hard as one may have it …   more ›
