Luisa's Place

Flag as Inappropriate

Beloved by locals, this Peruvian-Mexican cafe is nonetheless phasing out its delicious Peruvian menu: Luisa, the chef, says Peruvian food must be cooked from scratch, and most workers in this industrial neighborhood only get 30 minutes for lunch. "We have to help them get to work on time," her husband says. Instead, Luisa's will concentrate on American breakfasts and Mexican lunches. Luisa and her family bought this historic diner eight years ago; they're tickled that it was then called Mai Ling's, and for decades before that Borghelli's Italian Dinners. The Hayward Regional Shoreline's San Lorenzo Trail is next door, making this a good place to reward a run or hike with a hearty breakfast. Be aware that Luisa's often closes hours before its stated 6pm closing if business is slow, though the family will rustle you up a genuine Inca Cola or other cool drink. No alcohol is served.
