Deadline Looms For Kaiser Community Grants

Kaiser Permanente is accepting applications for its 2012 Community Benefit Grants Program in southern Alameda County.

The deadline for online application is Monday, Jan. 16 at 4 p.m.

Non-profit community groups and government agencies are encouraged to apply.

“These grants address health care disparities," said Sylvia Jimenez, Community Benefit Manager for Kaiser Permanente in southern Alameda County.

Last year, Kaiser Permanente distributed more than $800,000 to 40 community organizations, including a grant to schools.

Funding priorities this year include:

• reducing obesity in adults and children;
• reducing teen pregnancy rates;
• improving access to prevention and primary care services;
• improving prevention and management of diabetes and cardiovascular disease;
• and improved violence prevention and education.

The funding range for community grants this year falls into two categories: new and innovative community grants range from $5,000 to $15,000; collaborative grants in which two or more groups partner in a project range from $15,000 to $30,000.

The project time line will run from April 1, 2012 to Dec. 31, 2012.

Applicants will be notified of the status of their application by March 23.
