Ashland, Cherryland Rally to 'Move the Planet'

Ashland Cherryland Garden & Arts Network will host a series of community events this Saturday, all aimed at educating neighbors about the need to reduce greenhouse gases.

In an effort to educate the community on the need to reduce greenhouse gasses, the Ashland Cherryland Garden & Arts Network is hosting a series of projects relating to climate change mediation on Saturday, Sept. 24.

Ashland Cherryland Wake up! Move the Planet! is a local event and part of the large-scale 350.org initiative, a global grassroots movement aimed at solving the climate crisis.

Starting at 10 a.m., ACGAN will begin the day with its "Gritz & Greenz" event at the Eden House Apartments, 1601 164th Ave. Attendees will begin their rally by getting energized with grits, greens, yoga and a healthy serving of knowledge.

Those participating are encouraged to dress in costume, carry signs and, of course, make plenty of noise as they parade down to Jack Holland Sr. Park at East 14th Street and 163rd Street.

At 1 p.m. the crowd will march from the park to Mission and Maddox, pollinating the neighborhood with their ideas for a walk-able, bike-able path linking the Ashland and Cherryland communities together with those around them.

Participants can walk, bike or even dance as they launch seed-bombs around the area to hopefully grow into flowers for a "bee freeway" for the future.

By 2:30 p.m., all participants will gather at Laurel and Princeton Avenue in Cherryland to enjoy the fruits of their labor with a pollination celebration. A mural installation will also take place along with food, music, and tons of gardening and arts activities during this last event.

Everyone is encouraged to bring a favorite dish to share during the local food potluck.
