Patch is going to arrange for "Cool Prizes" for the top teams and Patch swag for all players.  Details to come...

So, are you ready for some Fantasy Football?

The Castro Valley Patch Football League will consist of 12 teams, divided into three divisions of four teams each. The divisions will be called: East, Central, and West.

Each team will consist of 14 NFL players. Owners may select a starting lineup each week from these 14 players. The chart below lists the required number of players at each position for the 'starting lineup' and the 'draft'.

  • Note: Individual defensive players are not drafted; rather, you will draft an NFL team's entire defensive/special teams unit. For the purpose of roster limits, each NFL defensive/special teams unit will count as one "player."

I've set up a live draft day for Sept. 2, at 7 p.m.

I'll be blogging the results weekly.  So be sure to create a team name that is OK for general population and not something that might be offensive.

Join CV Patch (It's free and just takes a second) and post a comment here if you're interested, and I will send you an official invitation.  Thanks and Good Luck!

P.S. A bit of history: Fantasy Football was invented in 1978 by some of the minority share owners of the Oakland Raiders (not Al Davis) at the King's X Bar on Piedmont Ave in Oakland.  In 1979, I got a copy of the original rules from a co-worker and I've been running a Fantasy Football League ever since.

The original rules are completely different from the modern online rules.

A bit of personal history: In 1991, I took a vacation to Australia, where they didn't have much NFL news available.  For the first week, I was in the Outback at Alice Springs and at the Great Barrier Reef, where you couldn't get much news at all. When I got back to Sydney, I found that Australian TV had a weekly show on Saturday morning for 90 minutes of NFL highlight from the previous week.

I was anxious to know how my team did.  I was spinning in the opposite direction as I watched two of my players, Joe Montana & Jerry Rice connect for five TDs vs. Atlanta!!  That was some big $$$.
