Labor Day Weekend: Gas Prices Highest on Record

You'll need a couple dollars extra to fill up your tank if you're driving out of town this Labor Day weekend.

In California, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is now $4.16, up from $4.13 a week ago and $3.81 a month ago, according to the California State Automobile Association.

In the East Bay, the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular has risen to $4.18 from $4.14 last week and $3.79 last month.

According to website gasbuddy.com, Castro Valley's cheapest unleaded regular gas comes in at $3.99 a gallon at Stop N Save off Stanton Avenue, Quik Stop on Lake Chabot Road and both ARCO's.

San Leandro's cheapest gas also came in at $3.99 a gallon at Freedom Gas & Food located at 15101 Freedom Ave. and Shell located at 1944 Davis St.

The cheapest gas in San Lorenzo can be found at the Via Enrico located at 15595 Washington Ave. It came in at $4.03 a gallon.

This is the highest Labor Day weekend gas prices on record. Analysts say the prices may edge upward during the weekend due to Hurricane Isaac's effect on Gulf Coast refineries.

The hurricane comes on top of refinery fires in Richmond and Venezuela this summer.
