Should Barry Bonds Have Been Elected Into the Hall of Fame?

Barry Bonds did not come close to being first-ballot Hall of Famer on Wednesday. Should he be in the Hall of Fame? Tell us in the comments section.

Barry Bonds will have to wait at least another year to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

And he might never stop waiting.

Bonds needed 75 percent of the vote from the Baseball Writers' Association of America to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. He got only 36.2 percent of the vote, finishing ninth on the ballot.

If you ignore the performance enhancement drug controversy surrounding Bonds, few players have ever had a better resume for Hall of Fame induction.

The former San Francisco Giants left fielder in the all-time leader in home runs (762), the all-time leader in home runs in a single-season (73), a seven-time Most Valuable Player winner (more than anybody else, ever) and a 14-time all star.

But, of course, it's impossible to ignore the PED controversy. In 2011, Bonds was convicted of obsturction of justice in connection to his testimony related to steroid use.

One thing Bonds didn't do in his career, that the Giants have done twice since his retirement, is win the World Series.

Do you think Bonds should be in the Hall of Fame? Do you think the writers will eventually vote him in? Tell us in the comments section.

As a young boy, dad took me to the mall where Hank Aaron was at a store grand opening. He shook my hand and signed a poster for me hitting the record breaking home run. This man who is still alive, had to watch this drug enhanced man with Willie Mays and Bobby Bonds by his side, break his record, and that is the worst thing about all of this. One more thing, Im a Giants fan and quit watching them for a short period until he left. I would go to the game and had seats by left field where was right in front of me every game. This SOB walks off the field every inning ignoring kids, and he cant even wave at them or acknowledge somehow. He is either ignorant or a Jerk.

Yah know at this point why not? Mickey Mantle used amphetamines in 1961 and he is in. Hell, drugs and sports are forever mixed. There isn't one lineman in the NFL not on steroids. Some even say BabeRuth could get on the field if he wasn't drunk the night before. Dock Ellis threw a no hitter on LSD. These "athletes" are racehorses and entertainers not role models. If your kid thinks a jock is a role model, you may want to take some parenting classes.

Baseball's HOF Election Rule 5: 5. Voting: Voting shall be based upon the player's record, playing ability, INTEGRITY, SPORTSMANSHIP or CHARACTER, and contributions to the team(s) on which the player played. So does anyone care to discuss Bond's(or any other steroid users) INTEGRITY, SPORTSMANSHIP or CHARACTER? Let's see, Bonds was convicted of obstruction of justice and a bunch of the other HOF nominees lied during hearings regarding PEDs. The PEDs in question were illegal under both state and federal law That sure smacks of people with INTEGRITY or CHARACTER. What I’d like to know is how the voters who voted for any of the steroid players reconciled the INTEGRITY, SPORTSMANSHIP or CHARACTER issue.

Absolutely NOT!! Just as Lance Armstrong has been stripped of his 7 Tour de France victories this is their slap in the face. They chose to do this, live with the consequences. They don't belong there. Bonds is a jerk, ignoring our kids waving excitedly at him as he walks right by.

I think 36.2 per-cent of the Baseball Writers Association should be x-ed for PED use.
