Lake Chabot Trail Challenge Returns June 3

This is the 29th year of this annual race in Castro Valley. that draws competitors from near and far. To get a $5 discount on your registration and a chance to receive a t-shirt, register by May 31.

 

The Castro Valley Track Club will be hosting the 29th Annual Lake Chabot Trail Challenge Half Marathon and 5k race June 3 at 8 a.m.

According to the club's website, the Half Marathon event will start at the Lake Chabot Marina-West Shore Trail and end near the Willow and Mallard Picnic Sites on East Shore Trail. The 5K race begins at the . 5K racers will line up facing the dam and run out on the West Shore Trail to the dam and back to the finish line which is on the East Shore Trail near the Willow and Mallard picnic sites. If you pre-register by May 31 the 5K costs $25; and the Half Marathon fee is $40. After May 31 there is registration on race day only for $5 more for each event. Organizers prefer participants to register on-line here.  You can also complete the registration form that accompanies this article and mail to the Castro Valley Track Club Attn: Jim Phillips at P.O. Box 10005 Pleasanton, CA 94588 with checks made payable to the non-profit Castro Valley Track Club, which benefits from race proceeds. 

The first 450 registered runners will receive a t-shirt. There will also be a prize raffle and refreshments available after the race.

According to the event's registration information, a plaque and complimentary entry to 2013’s race will be given to the first overall man and woman in each race. Medals will be given to the top 3 (in each of 13 age divisions) in the half marathon in 5 year age categories. Medals will be presented to the top 3 (in each of the 10 age divisions) in the 5K. A medal also will be given to the first male/female under 14 in each race.
