Castro Valley Teacher, Author Holds Double Book Signing

Castro Valley High School journalism teacher and author Matt Johanson will be holding a double book signing on two of his published works: Yosemite Epics: Tales of Adventure from America’s Greatest Playground and Game of My Life: San Francisco Giants.

Yosemite Epics is Johanson's third published book. He turned interviews with nearly two dozen daring adventurists into first-person narratives. Each focuses on a real-life adventure at Yosemite — from surviving a back-country avalanche to challenging whitewater rapids.

The Giants book is the new edition of his work first, published in 2007. It looks back on the team's greatest games played since coming to San Francisco in 1958.

"I tried to make the book about more than just baseball — some of the chapters are about games that held personal significance to the players and their families, like the stories from Dave Dravecky, Jason Schmidt and Brian Dallimore," Johanson said.

This second edition includes four new chapters and along with the monumental 2010 pennant clinching game and the World Series victory.

"As a fan and a writer, I was thrilled to capture the team's greatest games in print and the 2010 World Series victory gave the book a perfect ending," Johanson said.

Johanson plans to do a power point, talk about both books and sign copies from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Pleasanton library at 400 Old Bernal Ave.
