The new gymnasium at KIPP Collegiate High School in San Lorenzo was filled with cheering students, proud parents and pleased administrators Monday afternoon as this charter school dedicated $11.1 million in new construction, adding five instructional buildings and a gymnasium for its 450 secondary students.
In this Patch video KIPP High School principal Kate Belden talks about the school's formula for achievement.
Among those in attendance were:
Dr. Dennis Byas, superintendent of San Lorenzo Unified School District, which chartered KIPP;
school board members Norman Fobert and Penny Peck; and
KIPP founder Jason Singer, after whom the new gym is named. Singer appears in the video, in a white shirt, kneeling while peeling a tangerine for his sons.
