Save Our Schools Castro Valley! Appoints New President

Vice president Steve Ontiveros succeeded exiting president Allen Mueller for the local non-profit aimed at restoring the programs, services, and personnell that have been eliminated in the Castro Valley school district due to budget cuts.

Save Our Schools Castro Valley (SOSCV!) is pleased to announce the promotion of Steve Ontiveros to the role of President. He succeeds Allen Mueller in that role, effective August 15, 2012.

“It’s been a great year for Save Our Schools Castro Valley,” said new President Ontiveros. “I am excited to get started on our activities for the new school year, starting off with a presence at some school sites during walk-through registration.”

Ontiveros, who had been serving as the organization’s Vice President for the last two years, also noted how well the organization developed since inception.

“We raised over $160,000 for school-district-wide program needs. We have also grown its board of directors to six very dedicated members and are establishing a series of fund-raisers that are not only effective at raising needed funds, but have proved to be great bonding experiences for lots of community members.  We look to keep that success rolling over the next 12 months,” said Ontiveros.

This promotion was planned to occur during the next school year, but exiting president Allen Mueller had a job change that is taking his family to the Los Angeles area immediately, which pushed up the transition by a few months.

“Allen put his heart and soul into launching this organization,” said Ontiveros. “His accomplishments serve as a great template for keeping the momentum up and maintaining our district as one of the best districts in the Bay Area.”

Mueller leaves SOSCV! and the Castro Valley community with great regret.

“My thoughts will be with this community and I will be wishing you all the best in your efforts to support the Castro Valley community and our wonderful school district,” he said. “I want to express my thanks to the Castro Valley community for your support of Save Our Schools Castro Valley over the first few years of its existence. Specifically I would like to thank Brett Pletcher, my co-founder, who shared the original vision of the organization with me and serves on its board today, the very supportive school board, and Superintendent Jim Negri who continues to work with SOSCV! to best match its support with district needs.”
