School Board Appoints New Adult School Assistant Principal

Dustin Gacherieu takes over today as assistant principal of Castro Valley Adult and Career Education.

The Board of Education appointed Dustin Gacherieu as the Assistant Principal of Castro Valley Adult and Career Education effective July 16, 2012.

"When I first met Dustin three years ago, he indicated his desire to become an administrator. During the past three years, he has accepted increasing responsibilities that prepare him for this position. I am pleased to have Dustin joining our Leadership Team," commented Superintendent Jim Negri.

Mr. Gacherieu was selected to fill the vacancy created by the promotion of Mrs.
Susie Passeggi from Assistant Principal to the Director of CVACE. .

Mr. Gacherieu has been an employee of the Castro Valley Unified School District
since 2004. He has taught Kindergarten through fifth grade at and served as Elementary Summer School Principal in the summer of 2011.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Mr. Gacherieu has served as the District’s Energy Manager, which has resulted in a $230,000 reduction in the
district’s energy expenses.

As a member of the Castro Valley Arts Foundation Board of Directors, and regular volunteer for the Castro Valley Educational Foundation, Mr. Gacherieu worked to create partnerships with the community for the benefit of the students of Castro Valley.

Mr. Gacherieu is well known for his role as Master of Ceremony for numerous foundations and school fundraising events, and for his role in directing the plays and musicals at Chabot Elementary School.

“Dustin first demonstrated his commitment to the Castro Valley Unified School
District and his leadership within the district when he served as a Castro Valley
High School Student Board Member. Throughout his career in the district as a
teacher, he has continued to seek leadership opportunities and demonstrate his
commitment to the students, staff, and parents,” said Board President, Kunio Okui.

Mr. Gacherieu earned his Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Education degrees
from St. Mary’s College in Moraga. In addition to these degrees, he holds an
Administrative Services Credential, Multiple Subjects Credential, and his CLAD
certification.

Mr. Gacherieu was chosen from a large pool of applicants who participated in a formal interview panel, a writing assignment, a recorded teacher evaluation conference, and a final interview. Throughout this process, Mr. Gacherieu rose to the top. He will begin serving as Assistant Principal on July 16, 2012.
