Hillside Elementary Fifth Grader Launches School Newspaper

After being inspired to be a journalist during career week at Hillside Elementary, fifth grader Micah Hall, 10, launched her own newspaper about the school.

Despite newspapers dying out nationwide, a fifth-grade student at  recently brought one to life at her school.

After , Micah Hall, 10, launched The Hillside News to pursue an early career path towards becoming a journalist. 

From highlighting campus activities to featuring teachers, students and councelors, Micah said she has so far created three issues of the paper. Each one takes about three hours to put together, which she does on top of finishing homework.

School Principal Pam VandeKamp said classmates and staff are impressed with Micah's dedication toward creating a paper almost every week. Though the paper has not gone out in bulk, VandeKamp hangs the ones Micah creates outside her office door for the entire school to see.
