1. KIDS' CRAFT CLASS

Where/When: , Wednesday, March 16, 3:30 p.m.

Why Go: Join Jazzy Crafts on the third Wednesday of each month for a different kids' craft class. RSVP is required.

2. PRESCHOOL AND DAYCARE OPEN HOUSE

Where/When: , Saturday, March 19, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why Go: All parents and their children are welcome to explore the school and playground. The director and owner will be there to offer tours and answer any questions you might have. Snacks and crafts available, too.

3. ZOOKIDS: PAWS AND CLAWS

Where/When: Oakland Zoo, Saturday, March 19, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Why Go: Sign up your kids, ages 4 and 5, for a special program that includes a mini-hike, crafts, games and learning about how paws and claws help animals to survive in their habitats.

Pricing: $20 (members), $23 (non-members); Pre-registration required.

4. HORSEBACK RIDING PROGRAM OPEN HOUSE

Where/When: Humble Horsemen Training, Saturday and Sunday, March 19 and 20, from noon to 3 p.m.

Why Go: The facility specializes in children and young adult programs but is accepts newcomers of all ages. Bring the family to meet the horses, talk to a trainer, enjoy some snacks and drinks and soak up the atmosphere of Rancho de los Amigos.

5. LAWRENCE HALL OF SCIENCE

Where/When: Lawrence Hall of Science, Centennial Drive, University of California, Berkeley, daily, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: Check out exhibits like the "KidsLab," a multisensory play area including larger-than-life blocks, a crawl-through kaleidoscope, the Gravity wall, a puppet theater and a reading area, or explore the skies in an interactive planetarium.

Pricing: $6-$12; free for children ages 2 and under
