Dr. Preston Maring and Dig Deep Farms & Produce
Dr. Preston Maring, Kaiser Permanente's Medical Director of Referral Services, started the innovative Kaiser's farmers' markets. He is part of the new HBO documentary The Weight of the Nation, sections of which will also be available for viewing. Dr. Maring will present a cooking demo and offer inspiring ideas for healthier eating.
Hank Herrera, General Manager of Dig Deep Farms & Produce (DDF&P), will share his experience and advice on edible gardening. DDF&P grows fresh, affordable fruits and vegetables on its farm spaces in Ashland, Cherryland, San Leandro and Castro Valley, and provides healthy "grub boxes" to residents through community-supported agriculture. DDF&P will provide free organic produce to attendees.
