Hayward Area Historical Society Starts New Program Series "History Around Town"

The Hayward Area Historical Society is excited to present a new series of programs called “History Around Town.”  This series features lectures, workshops, concerts, special tours and living history events at different HAHS sites and places in the community. Visitors will learn more about the history of the Hayward area and the people who have and continue to shape the community.

Each program takes place on the first Saturday of the month. The first "History Around Town" program is Saturday, Feb. 5 at Palma Ceia Baptist Church, and features author Regina Mason. Mason is the great-great-great granddaughter of pioneering autobiographer William Grimes, who published the first fugitive slave narrative in American history. She has spent fifteen years researching the life of her remarkable ancestor and successfully re-published his original writings, including her research results, in "Life of William Grimes, the Runaway Slave."

The talk will be followed by a Q&A session, and the book will be available for purchase.  Light refreshments will be provided.
