“I am very pleased to announce that the district has hired a well-respected Director of Technology, John Perry, to continue the work that retiring Director Bruce Gidlund has successful managed for the past 16 of years,” stated Superintendent Jim Negri.
For the past ten years, Perry has been the Director of Information Technology for the Emery Unified School District (Alameda County).
In that role, Perry has managed every aspect of the technology program in Emery USD including, but not limited to the following: all networks including wireless networks and network security; budgeting and purchasing; state and federal reporting; telephone systems including Voice over IP; and installing the district’s e-mail server.
Besides his hands-on approach to the technical issues, Perry has also been involved in designing the iPad Digital Textbook program; upgrading and managing the district and school websites; implementing paperless board agendas/meetings; installing computer labs in the City of Emeryville Recreation and Senior Centers; writing Board Policy and Acceptable Use Agreements for the use of technology; and establishing student internships in technology with companies like Pixar.
Superintendent Negri added, “[Perry] comes to Castro Valley with the highest respect and recommendations of the Emery educational community especially from those with whom [Perry] has worked and his colleagues in the technology field.”
Perry is described to be "knowledgeable, hard-working, hands-on, an innovator, someone who reaches out to the community, a teacher, a colleague, focused on learning, honest, ethical, and has a high level of integrity,” according to Negri.
“We are very pleased to have John bring his outstanding experience and expertise to the district,” concluded Superintendent Negri.
The Board of Education approved hiring John Perry at a Special Board Meeting on May 29, 2012. He will begin working for Castro Valley Unified School District on July 1, 2012.
