CVHS Assistant Principal Appointed as Marshall Elementary's New Principal

Jesse Woodward, Assistant Principal at Castro Valley High School since 2005, will be taking over as Marshall Elementary's principal for next school year.

Board of Education appointed Jesse Woodward as the Principal of effective July 1, 2012. 

“As a board, we are very pleased to see one of our assistant principals promoted to a principal in the district. Jesse has consistently demonstrated a very strong commitment to our students, staff, and parents,” stated Board President Kunio Okui.

Woodward was appointed to fill the vacancy created when Walt Lewis was appointed as Principal of for the 2012-213 school year. Lewis is filling the spot of .

“Jesse has great passion and enthusiasm for learning,” commented Superintendent Jim Negri, “He will be building upon the strong foundation that the staff, parents, and Walt Lewis have established over the years at Marshall.”

Since 2005, Woodward served as an Assistant Principal at , where he is well-respected by students, staff, parents and colleagues as an administrator who truly cares about and is committed to the success of every student. 

“I am humbled and overjoyed to be appointed as the Principal of Marshall Elementary School," he said. "It is satisfying to know that I will be joining a team of dedicated, professional educators and parents committed to high-quality teaching and learning for all students.” 

Using the knowledge and skills that he honed during six years as a mathematics teacher at Castro Valley High School, Woodward is known as an administrator who works effectively with teachers to support and enhance their instructional practices as well as with parents to ensure that students are successful in all areas. 

He earned his Master of Arts, administrative credential and teaching credential at California State University, East Bay, and he earned his Bachelor of Arts in mathematics from Clemson University.

A large pool of applicants went through a screening interview; an interview process that included a panel interview with staff, parents, and administrators; a written assignment; and a videotaped observation conference. Throughout the interview process, Woodward demonstrated his readiness to lead Marshall Elementary School.

“I am looking forward to working with Jesse in his new role,” stated Superintendent Jim Negri.
