Copper Wire Stolen From Alma Pre-school

The theft caused the school to close on Thursday and will cost more than $3,000 to replace and repair.

Theives stole a copper electrical wire a Castro Valley preschool, leaving its kids and staff without electricity on Thursday.

Schoolbus drivers and parents were notified that day to not pick up or drop students off at the Alma Pre-school, located at 4400 Alma St., until the issue was resolved.

Michael Miller, Director of Maintenance, Operations, and Transportation told Castro Valley Patch on Thursday evening that a contractor was able to restore electricity last night and the school was able to reopen today.

And it's not cheap to replace, either. Miller estimates the cost to be around $3,300. It will be covered by CVUSD's maintenance budget.

"We're an easy target," he said.
