Castro Valley School District and the Await & Find Project Awarded Federal Grant

The three-year grant will provide $869,522 and teaching resources to the students and schools of CVUSD.

The Castro Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) in partnership with the Await & Find Project, has been awarded the highly coveted Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP) Grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

Only 76 of the 585 applicants across the United States were funded in this highly competitive grant. The three-year grant will provide $869,522 and teaching resources to the students and schools.

The goal of the PEP Grant is:

  • to help students achieve higher levels of daily physical activity both in and out of Physical Education classes
  • to improve nutrition, and
  • to learn lifetime fitness skills.

These needs were identified through the California Healthy Kids Surveys (CHKS) and by P.E. specialists serving elementary, middle, and high school students.

Grant funding will be used to provide the P.E. specialists with the most up-to-date instructional strategies and resources in order to better help students meet California Standard for Physical Education and Health.

The P.E. specialists will have the opportunity to engaged professional development activities based on the best instructional practices for physical education.

The professional development opportunities will enhance the knowledge and skills of the specialists to enhance the P.E. programs as well as develop healthy, life-long habits related to physical activity. Additionally, the schools will receive new, state-of-the-art fitness equipment to enhance the learning experience of all students.

The Castro Valley Unified School District and the Await & Find Project look forward to implementing this prestigious PEP Grant that will benefit all students and the dedicated P.E. specialists.
