$4,428 in 'Tips' at Don Jose's Mexican Restaurant Goes to CV Schools

That's a lot of appreciation for chips and salsa! Civic and community leaders waited tables Friday night to raise money for Castro Valley schools.

From a press release

Save Our Schools Castro Valley! (SOSCV!) raised $4,428 at its “Tip$ for Education” event on March 25. The evening featured local celebrity waiters who encouraged diners at Don Jose’s Mexican Restaurant to leave special tips directed to SOSCV! to support school programs.

“The event was highly successful, with the average 'tip' coming out to around 66 percent of the average dinner ticket,” said Steve Ontiveros, vice president of Save Our Schools Castro Valley!

“SOSCV! is off to a great start in 2011 and we’re gaining momentum as we go,” said Brett Pletcher, SOSCV! co-founder. “We have recently surpassed $100,000 in donations raised to support the school district, and residents and businesses are starting to take notice of our campaign, especially after hearing that we were able to save all of the library aide positions in K-5 grades this school year with our donations thus far.”

“I am very grateful for all of the efforts that SOSCV! has made to help offset budget cuts,” commented Superintendent Jim Negri.

Next up for SOSCV! is the Castro Valley Rotary Chili Cook Off on May 13, followed by an  entry in the Rowell Ranch Rodeo Parade on May 14..   SOSCV! President Allen Mueller encourages everyone "to come out and support our schools at these events.”

SOSCV! is a non-profit organization established in 2009 to reduce the impact of budget cuts in education. SOSCV! is continuing to expand its fundraising activities into corporate and small businesses in the local Castro Valley community as well as pursuing grants, and, of course, donations from residents both with children in Castro Valley schools and those without. SOSCV! believes that everyone will be impacted by this crisis, so everyone needs to be a part of the solution.
