San Lorenzo History Classes Being Offered At San Lorenzo Library

Local historian Doris Marciel will teach two free classes on San Lorenzo history at the San Lorenzo Library. Classes will be on Wednesday, September 21 and 28 from 1-3 p.m.

Author and local historian Doris Marciel owns the family home purchased by her great-grandparents in 1875, where her grandmother and mother were both born.

Marciel will teach about San Lorenzo’s history in a series of two classes at the San Lorenzo Library on Wednesday, September 21st and 28th from 1-3 p.m. The general public is invited to come out and enjoy the lecture.

San Lorenzo has been a desirable place to live since 1847, when squatters built their cabins on the north side of San Lorenzo Creek, back when it was part of two Mexican ranchos.

The settlement known as Squatterville grew into a town at Four Corners, now the intersection of Hesperian and Lewelling Boulevards.

Named San Lorenzo in 1854, the area developed into a close community over the next 90 years.

Members of the public interested in learning more about their community’s rich history should plan to attend both of Marciel’s classes. These classes are presented free and no registration is required.
