The Special Perils Facing The Black Middle Class

And the relation to the white middle class whites. CSUEB Professor Benjamin Bowser presents a free program, February 2 at Palma Ceia Baptist Church in Hayward.

The American middle class is in peril and the African-American middle class especially so.

On Saturday, February 2, at 5:00 pm, California State University East Bay Professor Benjamin P. Bowser will hold a free event to discuss how the black middle class is faring amid the general polarization of the economy.

Bowser is the author of "The Black Middle Class: Social Mobility and Vulnerability."

In that book he argues that "that the seemingly comparable black and white middle classes, while inextricably linked, in fact exist on entirely different economic planes," as one review put it.

This free program is sposored by the Hayward Area Historical Society in collaboration with the Women's Ministry of Palma Ceia Baptist Church and the South Bay Area Chapter of the LINKS, Inc.

It will be held at Palma Ceia Baptist Church, 28605 Russ Road in Hayward, and is part of the Historical Society's fourth annual Black History Month Program.

If CV is great, and I am not disputing that fact, why would you want to change it's nature?Read More Wouldn't that change the very things that you are trying to protect and preserve?

You can't compare Castro Valley with Menlo Park. Menlo Park is on the edge of Silicon Valley and hasRead More much more income per capita than Castro Valley could ever hope to have. Certainly the county is a lousy and unfair administrator, but we can at least afford them (somewhat). It is extremely unlikely that we could support a city unless you lie a lot about our finances like the incorporation proponents did during the last election.
