Teen Driving Education Workshop January 15 in C.V.

The California Highway Patrol's Start Smart program will be presented at the library

From the Castro Valley Library -

The California Highway Patrol and the Castro Valley Library will again present the Start Smart: Teen Driver Program at the library located at 3600 Norbridge Avenue on January 15 from 6 to 7 p.m.

CHP officers will discuss traffic collision avoidance techniques, collision causing factors, driver/parent responsibilities, and seatbelt usage. Additionally, testimonies will be provided by officers who have investigated fatal collisions involving teens, and by family members who have lost love ones in traffic collisions.

The Start Smart program is a driver safety education class which targets new and future licensed teenage drivers between the age of 15 and 19 and their parents or guardians.

According to CHP Smart Start, "Teen drivers are found at fault in 66 percent of all fatal collisions that they are involved in, although they only represent 4 percent of the state's licensed drivers. The leading cause of death for Americans age 15 to 20  is motor vehicle collisions."

You can see an introductory video from Smart Start about teen driver safety here.

Please contact the Castro Valley Library to register in advance at 510-667-7900.
