POLL: Did Your San Lorenzo Student 'Walk and Roll' to School?

A little rain didn't stop Hillside Elementary students from celebrating International Walk and Roll to School Day.

More students chose to walk than roll to school Wednesday morning during .

Though celebrated at schools across the , Supervisor Nate Miley sent several of his staff and liaisons to Hillside to high-five kids and encourage them about healthier alternatives to getting to school.

Miley was unable to attend because he was visiting Laurel Elementary in Oakland during the international event.

Darryl Stewart, a constituent liaison to the District 4 Supervisor, helped pass out energy bars for students to snack on and stickers for them to add to a giant chart showing how they got to school.

Despite the recent rainfall, he said he was pleasantly surprised to see so many students walking to school.

"The idea of kids walking to school is now becoming more popular," he said.
