Miley Remains Alameda County Supervisor

Incumbent Nate Miley keeps his spot as Alameda County District 4 Supervisor, beating out challenger Tojo Thomas with more than 70 percent of votes.

Supervisor Nate Miley won't be saying so long to his seat as Alameda County's District 4 Supervisor. He beat out his challenger Tojo Thomas by three times as many votes.

With absentee ballots and 232 total precincts reporting, had accumulated 21,899 votes, about 72 percent of the total.

, took 8,142 votes, almost 27 percent.

Miley's term runs for another four years, until 2016. After spending a decade on the Oakland City Council, Miley moved on to serve on the Alameda County's Board of Supervisors for the past 12 years, where he currently holds the position as board president.

"I look forward to continuing my work with the growing senior community, increasing access to healthcare, violence prevention initiatives, governmental transparency and environmental protection," he posted on Castro Valley Patch on Monday.

However, come 2016, he may face another race against Thomas.

Once results were in, Thomas posted the following response on his campaign Facbeook Page,

Six months ago, I made the decision to run for Board of Supervisor. I knew I was running aganist a strong opponent backed by the Democratic party! With all the help from all my friends, we fought hard and came up short. I was not going to sacrifice my ethics, values and integrity for political power. I will try again in 2016. Thanks for all the support and love you gave me.

The district includes parts of Oakland, Ashland, Castro Valley, Cherryland, El Portal Ridge, Fairmount Terrace, Fairview, Hillcrest Knolls and Pleasanton.

Both candidates had the opportunity to submit columns of 500 words or less, asking readers of District 4 for their votes for the June primary election. Read more on and columns.

Alameda County officials said they expected voter turnout to be less than 40 percent, close to the predicted 35 percent statewide turnout.

That would be significantly lower than the 61 percent who voted countywide in the last state presidential primary in February 2008. That hotly contested presidential primary pitted Hillary Clinton against eventual winner Barack Obama, said Dave Macdonald, the Alameda County Registrar.
