Primary focus: The Grant Writer is responsible for writing grant proposals, reports and letters of inquiry to institutional funders. The successful candidate will be able to prepare persuasive grant proposal packages to corporations, foundations and government funders to meet the Food Bank’s annual institutional fundraising goals.

This individual is a member of the 15 person Development team and reports to the Manager of Corporate and Foundation Relations. This position is responsible for submitting grant proposals to corporate, foundation and government funders and for conducting thorough prospect research to identify opportunities for new and increased funding support.

The ideal candidate will have experience monitoring an annual grants calendar to ensure timely submission of requests and reports. The Grant Writer will be responsible for organizing and maintaining electronic and hard copy grant files.

Other key duties include: working with staff to collect program data and client stories to fully capture the scope and impact of services, and representing the organization at internal and external community events.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years in nonprofit development with a primary focus on grant writing
  • Demonstrated success at securing institutional funding at the $10,000 level and above
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to craft solicitation letters, proposals and reports
  • Experience working with a variety of prospect research tools
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organization skills, attention to details, problem solving and creativity
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer-service skills
  • Computer software knowledge including MS Office, donor databases and fundraising programs
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Valid California driver's license with good driving record
  • Ability to work in a team setting with people of diverse backgrounds/circumstances
  • Interest in and commitment to the mission of the Alameda County Community Food Bank
