Politics & Government

Tri-Valley YMCA Youth & Government Meeting!

Youth and Government is a program for high school students that not only allows them to learn about issues surrounding California and the nation, but also gives them the tools to help solve these problems!

The program involves weekly meetings (every Wednesday at 6:30 PM) in which students discuss hot topics in the news, practice their debating and public speaking skills, write bills, socialize with other kids in the community and prepare for three statewide conferences. The first two conferences teach and train participants for specific program areas (i.e. a student could become a lobbyist, member of assembly, supreme court justice, governor, etc). There is something for every student! Then, in February, students go to Sacramento and literally take over the capitol and put all of their knowledge into action!

Not only is Youth and Government a fun way to get involved in current events and politics, but it is also a great place to meet friends from all over the state and the Tri-Valley area! More so, it looks great on college applications and is a great opportunity for internships!
