East Bay Municipal Utility District officials say the water flowing through Castro Valley yesterday near Parsons Avenue was as a result of the pipes being flushed as the final step in a pipeline replacement project.

EBMUD spokesperson Nelsy Rodriguez told Patch, "For the past six weeks, EBMUD crews have been working in Castro Valley to replace a failing 12” pipeline at Badding Road off Parsons Avenue. The work was completed yesterday with the final step of taking out of service the old pipe, which involves releasing water that had been stored in that segment. EBMUD greatly appreciates the public’s quick attention to what may appear like wasteful water use, however we must flush pipes after repairs in order to ensure the water we are distributing is clean and safe for consumption."

In Oakland on Moraga Avenue, similar repairs are being made on the Dingee pipeline . Read the full story here.
