The , together with the Alameda County Alliance for Art Learning Leadership is presenting its second annual Art is Education month in March.
The library is celebrating and advocating arts education by sponsoring a month-long series of free events.
Over 50 free arts programs will be hosted throughout the entire Alameda County Library system during the month.

Children's Picture Book Contest Starts March 1
The San Lorenzo library is hosting a Children's Picture Book Contest open to all ages. Top entries will be read during the library's storytime. A $50 prize will be awarded to top entries in each age group. The categories will be split into a 6 to 12 years old age group and a 13 years and older age group.
Here are the coloring contest rules:
Entrants must be residents of San Lorenzo or adjacent cities. There is only one entry allowed per author and illustrator.
All entries must include a separate page listing the author's and illustrator's name, address, phone number or e-mail address, the book title and a brief paragraph summary. Books entered should be 30 pages or less and may be typed or handwritten. Books must not measure more than 6.5 inches wide and 8 inches high in total size. Each page must have a 1/2 inch margin on the binding edge of the page for binding purposes. They must be the original work of the author and illustrator.
Entries cannot have been previously accepted for publication by a commercial publisher. Self published entries are accepted.
The deadline for submission is March 27 at 6 p.m. the .
All books entered will be judged on ideas, creativity, organization, voice, word choice, illustrations, and grammar and spelling.
If the library is unable to reach a prizewinner by phone or email after reasonable efforts it may result in disqualification and an alternate winner may be selected.
The winners will be notified within two weeks of the contest end date.
All contestants are invited to attend the 2012 Awards Presentation where they can pick up their book and a certificate of recognition. Authors not present at the ceremony may pick up their books at the San Lorenzo Library.
Community Art Project - Printmaking March 3
On March 3 from 12 to 4 p.m. artist Susan Sullivan will hold a printmaking workshop at the library and those participating will be invited to include their creation in a community quilt which will be pieced together after the event.
