Castro Valley School Board Selects Gary Howard As the Provisional Appointment

Gary Howard was selected by the Castro Valley Board of Education at a Special Board Meeting on August 6 as the Provisional Appointment to fill the open seat created by the resignation of Trustee George Granger.  The board interviewed eleven applicants for the position before selecting Mr. Howard on the fourth vote of the evening with a 4-0 vote.

Board President Jo A.S. Loss commented, “The board was very fortunate to have so many highly qualified applicants who are committed to serving our students, staff, parents and community and that made it a difficult decision.  The board is thankful that all of the participants prioritized the children of Castro Valley and encourages all of the applicants to be involved with our schools in the future.”  President Loss further noted, “Gary has been an active member of Castro Valley school community for a number of years including his years as President of the Castro Valley Educational Foundation.  The board members are looking forward to welcoming Gary as a member of the Governance Team and having him share his expertise and vision.”

Mr. Howard commented, “I am excited by the opportunity to continue serving the school district as a new board member.  I am committed to ensuring that the board works to address the needs of all students in the district. 

Mr. Howard will officially take office on August 16 with his first board meeting on August 29.
