Castro Valley Sanitary District Wastewater Outreach Campaign Survey Completed

Castro Valley Sanitary District: New Look, Same Great Service and Raising Awareness to Keep Rates Low

(CVSan) has been in the forefront of environmental matters for over 70 years. We were created to provide the Castro Valley community with wastewater services since it formed in 1939.

This continues to ring true today, as CVSan maintains nearly 160 miles of wastewater sewer mains and 9 wastewater pump stations. Up to 4 million gallons of wastewater travel through these pipes to the Oro Loma/Castro Valley Wastewater Treatment Plant in San Lorenzo daily.

However, a random customer survey CVSan conducted earlier this year indicates most residents only know about our solid waste services, not our wastewater efforts.

We decided to further look into the public awareness of CVSan and its wastewater services by recently conducting a more detailed survey of 4,500 residents and businesses. The results of the surveyed respondents have been received and the information will be used to increase levels of awareness through various wastewater campaigns going forward.

Although we continually do preventative maintenance on our sewer lines, we still need your help. By being more informed about our wastewater efforts and knowing to call CVSan first for sewer problems, such as sewer overflows, we will be able to evaluate problems as soon as they occur. This will lessen the chance of an expensive problem from occurring, thus keeping your rates one of the lowest in Alameda County.

Castro Valley residents are wondering, what is the difference between CVSan and EBMUD? East Bay Municipal Utility District supplies homes and businesses with clean water, whereas CVSan is responsible for the collection, treatment and disposal of wastewater.

CVSan always welcomes input from the community and we hope you keep an eye out for our wastewater outreach plans in the near future.
