A 22-year-old motorcyclist was killed Thursday evening when he was hit by car in Castro Valley, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The crash was reported at 6:22 p.m. after an accident between a Honda Pilot and a Harley Davidson motorcycle at Parsons and Wilson avenues, CHP Officer Richard Diamond said.

Justin Barnes, 22, was riding his motorcycle northbound on Parsons Avenue, approaching Wilson Avenue when a man in a 2004 Honda Pilot turned left onto Wilson Avenue from southbound Parsons Avenue, Diamond said.

The Honda hit the motorcycle, which sent Barnes into a parked car on Parsons and he was ejected from the bike.

Barnes was taken to Eden Valley Hospital in Castro Valley, where he was pronounced dead, the officer said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the CHP at (510) 581-9028.

When will people realize that we motorcycle riders have the same rights on the road as you car drivers? How many more innocent victims will there be due to your negligence? I truly hope the DA prosecutes the driver to the fullest extent of the law. I cant hardly ride down the road without some horrible driver nearly running into me everytime! I have been riding for nearly 40 years and it is just getting worse!! Pay attention when you drive a car!! Look for people on bikes GEEEEZZZEEE! My prayers go out to his family.

People:Please look in your mirrors, etc. when driving! We are motorcycle riders and have already survived one accident where an SUV turned right into us on D St. in Hayward. We have a Harley too which is loud so I don't buy the excuse "we didn't see you". Just today we had a near miss in the Santa Cruz area where a car just started moving into the lane we were in like we weren't even there-pay attention & share the road & be respectful !!! People are in too much of a hurry these days-we all need to get somewhere so all it takes is a few minutes to be courteous so we all can get where we need to get.

Justin was one of the kindest, sweetest students I have ever taught. He had a heart of gold and would do anything for his family, friends and people he loved. Every time he came to school to pick up his niece he would come say hi and give me a big hug. I am so grateful to have taught him and seen him grow up into a wonderful young man- you will definitely be missed Justin. My prayers for Kim, your grandma, Ashley, Courtney, Leilani, Mateo and your whole family.

@ Greg: If you go to the CHP web site regarding motorcycle safety, you will realize that in order to be thrown as far as Mr Barnes had traveled from impact, he would have been traveling over 49 miles an hour in a residential street. Parsons rises and does not level off until 100 feet before Wilson. If he had looked back over his shoulder, he would not have seen the vehicle. No skid marks. Negligence is on Barnes as well. I can't see how the DA should even get involved. Bikers are at times just as guilty from not being careful. It is sad that a young 22 year old man lost his life. But confidence kills as many bikers as cars.
