Shots Fired in Monday Robbery

Purse-snatching thugs fire on a Good Samaritan in San Lorenzo Monday night.

A pair of purse-snatching youths opened fire on the car of a Good Samaritan who tried to follow them in the wake of a robbery Monday night, police said.

The two suspects approached a woman on Linnea Avenue near Elgin Street about 8 p.m. Monday night, flashing a semi-automatic handgun and knocking her to the ground before making off with her purse, said Sgt. J.D. Nelson of the Alameda County Sheriff's Office. They then fled on foot toward Elgin Street.

A man who had been sitting in his car nearby decided to give chase. He trailed the youths to the interesection of Bertero Avenue and Silverleaf Drive, where they spotted him and opened fire.
