Highway Reopened After Shooting on I-580 in Castro Valley

No one was injured during the shooting. The incident closed I-580 for about an hour, according to officials with the California Highway Patrol.

By Bay City News—

Shots were fired from one vehicle to another on westbound Interstate Highway 580 in Castro Valley this evening, according to a California Highway Patrol spokesman.

One vehicle was struck by bullets but no one was injured in the freeway shooting, which was reported just before 4 p.m., CHP Officer Eric Thomas said.

The suspect vehicle, described as a silver Ford Focus, pulled up next to the other vehicle between Interstate Highway 238 and 164th Avenue and fired five to six shots while driving, Thomas said.

There is no information yet on the driver of the suspect vehicle and it is unclear whether the suspect and victim knew each other or whether this was a road rage incident, Thomas said.

The incident closed 580 for around an hour, and the offramp to 164th is still closed, Thomas said.
