Alameda County Sheriff's Deputy Charged With Child Molestation

Michael Bareno, 43, a sheriff's deputy in Alameda County, was arraigned today on 10 felony counts of child molestation.

An Alameda County sheriff's deputy who lives in San Ramon was charged in court today with 10 counts of child molestation.

The Contra Costa County district attorney is accusing Michael Bareno, 43, of molesting three children younger than 14 years old. He is being held at the county jail in Martinez in lieu of $4.6 million bail.

Prosecutors say Bareno – a veteran sheriff's deputy – molested children between 2005 and 2009.

Before his arrest, Bareno had worked at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin and was a deputy for a decade. Since San Ramon police took him into custody, Bareno has been on paid leave.

Bareno is due back in court Nov. 18 to enter a plea.
