UPDATE: Alleged Kidnapping From Manteca Ends in Castro Valley; Suspect Still At Large

A man was found in the backseat of a woman's car in Manteca and demanded that she drive him to Castro Valley. He is still at large.

An alleged kidnapping from Manteca led to heavy police activity in Castro Valley on Saturday afternoon.

Castro Valley Patch Facebook users reported seeing multiple helicopters, police and even K-9 patrol units searching the area around Castro Valley Boulevard and Redwood Road.

Sgt. Nelson of Alameda County's Sheriff's Office told Castro Valley Patch that it was the "end result of an alleged kidnapping from Manteca."

According to a press release by Manteca Police, a woman was getting into her car at a grocery store parking lot in Manteca when she noticed a man in the backseat.

Manteca Police Sgt. Jodie Estarziau said the suspect allegedly threatened the driver with a weapon to take him to Castro Valley. He got out of the car around 5:30 p.m. nearby Redwood Road and Castro Valley Boulevard. Afterward, the driver called 911 to report the incident, in which Alameda County Sheriff's Office responded to until Manteca Police arrived.

She did not suffer severe injuries Estarziau said.

The suspect, who is still at large, is described as a dark-complexioned black man, about 6 feet tall with a muscular build. He was wearing a white tank top, black shorts, and a dark baseball cap.

The case is being investigated by detectives.
