San Lorenzo Apartment Fire Displaces Residents

Officials are investigation the fire.

A two-alarm fire at an apartment complex in San Lorenzo left 24 units temporarily uninhabitable this evening, an Alameda County fire spokeswoman said.

Firefighters responded to the blaze at the two-story Galway Terrace Apartments in the 800 block of Galway Drive at 5:27 p.m., Alameda County fire spokeswoman Aisha Knowles said. Upon arrival, firefighters battled flames coming from the first and second floors as well as the attic, Knowles said. Within 30 minutes of arriving at the scene, firefighters knocked down the blaze, according to Knowles.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the blaze remains under investigation, Knowles said. While five units in the complex sustained fire damage and another five units sustained smoke and water damage, a total of 24 units were temporarily uninhabitable tonight, Knowles said.

The American Red Cross responded to the scene and assisted those residents who were displaced by the fire.
