Early morning car blaze causes some tense moments at a four-unit building

Alameda County firefighters responded to a fire early this morning
at a home in Castro Valley where the sleeping occupants awoke to fire outside
their window.

The fire began in a car that was parked next to a two-story building with four adjoining units at 2519 Denning Court at about 1 a.m., said Battalion Chief John Walsh.

A woman and her teenage daughter were sleeping in one of the units when the fire broke out. They awoke to a popping sound and saw the fire outside their window, Walsh said.
