Report of Sexual Assault on Madrone Trail

A woman reported being raped on the East Bay Regional Park trail on Wednesday.

Local residents are concerned about a report that on Wednesday a woman was raped on an East Bay Regional Park District trail.

Patch could not reach park police for comment but was contacted by readers asking if the report is true. KTVU is reporting this morning that because of an assault security has been increased at Madrone Trail. The trail is accessible via Bollinger Canyon Road from the west and Camille Avenue from the east between Danville and Alamo.

According to the Park Police report being circulated among San Ramon Valley residents: A woman hiking at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday passed a man with a dog coming from the opposite direction.

She said the man grabbed her hair from behind, pulled her down onto the ground, pinned her down and assaulted her.

She described him as a white man in his early 40s with short light brown hair, clean-shaven, with a pointed nose and light olive complexion. He was of medium build, about 5 foot 10 and weighing about 180 pounds.

He was wearing a tan and cream button up shirt, blue jeans and dark colored tennis shoes. He had a silver watch on his left wrist.

The dog was described as heavy set, medium-sized brown and white with one ear up and the other down.

Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Bermudez at 510-690-6562.

I saw this story reported on television news reports twice so I would definitely consider it a valid incident and not just rumor. When attacks occurred in Walnut Creek it was more widely and frequently publicized. I guess the news networks are too busy covering all the recent shootings Oregon, Oakland, SF, Conn. to give this much time.

FYI, the information in the story comes directly from the EBRPD police incident report.

Autumn, thanks for the nifty link. Of course what the link says is "the department does not believe there is any extraordinary risk or danger to anyone using Las Trampas Regional Park or living nearby. The police department is continuing extra patrols of the area." "Due to the confidential nature of this type of investigation, the EBRPD police department is not able to share any of the information that has been developed." "There is no history of any similar incidents being reported at Las Trampas for at least the past five years. Any inquiries can be directed to EBRPD Police Lieutenant Jon King at 510-690-6552." Unknown and undisclosable are not assaul or rape. Could this be that it is one more example of over reaction or some version that may not in fact be a rape or assault? If that is the case, this story really needs to take a different track. If this is the same sort of thing that happened in Palo Alto, it was not rape and not assault and was definitely the type of incident that should have resulted in charges against the idiot that called the cops. Rape and assault are bad things. Making up stuff and villifying folks is just as bad. People should always practice safety while using the regional parks. It is always best to hike with a friend or with your dog, carry your cell phone with you, be aware of your surroundings and insure that someone knows where you are hiking so that we know where to look if you become overdue for any reason.
