CHP: Reckless Driver Arrested Following Slow-Speed Pursuit

CHP officials say the pursuit ended on Highway 880 near 23rd Avenue this morning.

A brief pursuit of a reckless driver in the East Bay ended this morning with the suspect being taken into custody in Oakland, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

The pursuit began after CHP officers received a report of a reckless driver on Interstate Highway 580 near Eden Canyon Road in Castro Valley, CHP Officer Sean Wilkenfeld said.

The suspect vehicle had apparently struck at least two cars and then fled the scene, Wilkenfeld said. Officers then spotted the car on Interstate Highway 880 and a slow-speed pursuit ensued at speeds of about 25 mph, according to Wilkenfeld.

The pursuit then ended shortly before 9 a.m. on Highway 880 near 23rd Avenue, where the suspect was taken into custody despite being combative, Wilkenfeld said.
