Police Searching for Suspect Trying to Rob Pharmacies of Narcotics

The suspect may have tried to rob more than one pharmacy in more than one city in Tri-Valley in the last two days.

From Pleasanton Police Department:

The Pleasanton Police Department is investigating two attempted pharmacy robberies that may be related.

At 12:37 p.m. today Pleasanton Police patrol units responded to the Rite-Aid Pharmacy located at 2819 Hopyard Road. A pharmacy employee reported that a male suspect entered the pharmacy and presented a note stating the suspect had a gun and demanding that they give him opiate-based prescription narcotics. The pharmacy staff did not comply and the suspect fled the store on foot. No weapon was seen and nobody was injured during this incident.

The suspect is described as an unshaven white male in his early 30’s, 5’-2” to 5’-3” tall and weighing about 130 to 140 pounds. He was also described as having a very red facial complexion. He was wearing a light brown jacket and brown beanie cap.

A similar attempted robbery occurred at 6:15 p.m. yesterday at the Lucky pharmacy on 6155 West Las Positas Boulevard in Pleasanton. In that incident, a lone suspect also presented a demand note for opiate-based prescription narcotics and claimed to have a gun. That suspect also fled without any narcotics. No weapon was seen and nobody was injured during that incident as well.

That suspect is described as an unshaven white or middle Eastern male, age 30 to 40 years old, 5’8” tall and 190 pounds. He was wearing a blue shirt and grey sweat pants.

Anybody with information about these crimes is encouraged to call the Pleasanton Police Department at (925) 951-5100. Pleasanton Police are working with the Dublin and Livermore Police Departments to determine if these two attempted robberies are related to recent similar crimes in those jurisdictions.
Please refer to those agencies for additional information.

I'm no expert, but it sure sounds like this is someone local since lucky's and rite aid are so close to each other and the dublin Safeway is a ten min driving trip from the Pleasanton stores at the most. Don't most pharmacies have video surveillance? If yes, I hope they release photos on this site and PW. If its the same person, I just don't see the proximity of at least the two Pleasanton stores as being a coincidence. But maybe I watch crime TV stuff. I'm not implying a Bart connection at all, but our little town has experienced some pretty serious crimes these days with the murder-suicide, the location of Michelle Le's remaina and the remains of the woman from Stockton (I think) that were so sadly dumped on Dublin canyon. And then there was the stabbing by village high school and I think there was a house condoned off of foothill as possibly being use to manufacture drugs which I might wrongfully have though was meth. There's been car thefts too and now these two potential armed robberies......it makes me sad. Is there really more crime going on, or is this just because more of us, myself included, that are reading the arrest records posted on patch and PW.

wow, I shop there, that is not far from my new pleasanton martial arts school (http://www.trivalleykarate.com). Years ago I was help up at a gunpoint at GNC. I knew the guy wanted money and didn't feel he was going to shoot me, but I know if I felt threatened in any way I would have reacted. The robber was caught; he was a regular customer. Most robberies, burglaries, thefts are done by someone who has a relationship with the person, store, area, etc. Pleasanton Mom, I think your Mom instincts are playing out well :) With all the crime happening, I think it is time to empower our local citizens, Mothers, Fathers, our kids - I am starting a traditional Pleasanton karate school http://www.trivalleykarate.com; I'm teaching the way I was taught years ago as an art not as a business; I do it for the love and it keeps people in shape. My goal is to get adults/parents to train, can't hurt to get in shape and learn karate, so when an unfortunate situation arises one can diffuse or end it with ease with minimal force. A fact of life is crime will always be present, but we want to decrease the chances of being a statistic. I'm a father or two, a husband, son, brother, and I will do what I can to protect myself and my loved one when the time arises; we all should. I'd love to see some new faces at the new karate school at Club One Pleasanton (www.clubone.com/pleasanton); they have a 2000 sq foot child care area so kids come and play and parents come and train :)
