Police Investigating 3 Stabbings, 1 Fatal in Parking Lot Behind Buffalo Bill's Brewery

Police say they believe the three stabbings to be related.

Police in Hayward this morning are investigating a trio of stabbings, one of which left a male dead.
Officers responded to a report of a fight in a parking lot behind 1082 B. St. at about 12:20 a.m., police said. Buffalo Bill's Brewery is located at that address. When officers arrived, they found a male in the parking lot suffering from at least one stab wound.

Crews attempted to give the male aid but he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. About five minutes later, police responded to a report of a solo car crash in the area of A Street and South Garden Avenue.
When officers arrived at that scene, they found an unoccupied car, police said. The officers were then notified of two patients that arrived at a hospital suffering from stab wounds. The conditions of the two victims were not immediately available.
The three stabbings are believed to be related but are all under investigation, police said. Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to call Hayward police at (510) 293-7034.

Editor's Note: Headline has been updated to reflect more specific location of stabbing.

That parking lot is shared by all the surrounding businesses. Linking the stabbing to Buffalo Bill's Restaurant and Brewery, just because they share the same address as the parking lot shows very poor editorial judgement when there is no evidence presented that the argument that preceded the stabbing originated in that business establishment. Shame on you, Autumn Johnson. How many people who read this article will now avoid Buffalo Bill's so they don't risk getting stabbed while having a dinner and a micro-brew? This is why I no longer follow the Patch anymore except for Breaking News Alerts. You find better journalistic standards in the Globe or the Star.

@Rob: This article is written by Bay City News wire service as shown by the copyright at the bottom. The information provided to Bay City News was given to them by Hayward Police. It is the police who say they believe the three stabbings to be related, not Patch. Buffalo Bill's Brewery was given as the location of the incident, not having to do with the cause of the stabbing. The incident occurred well after dinner hours, at 12:20 a.m.

Autumn: I'm going to agree with Rob on this one because your repost is titled: "Police Investigating 3 Stabbings, 1 Fatal at Buffalo Bill's Brewery." says here you are the "Editor." You should Have Edited it "Municipal parking Lot" or "Downtown Hayward" or something else. But the Title reflects that it had something to do with that pub and everyone on FB is now talking about bummer for buffalo bill's and visiting the restaurant. As the "Editor" you are the one with the responsibility to recognize appropriate "edits."

Furthermore, I looked at the Bay City New article (which I cannot post the screenshot on this comment box) and it is titled "Hayward police investigating 3 stabbings, 1 fatal." Maybe you should just post an apology in the comment thread moving forward... just a suggestion.

I agree with Rob Phillips. There is nothing wrong with the story, but the headline is misleading with its "at Buffalo Bill's..." I opened the story expecting to be horrified to hear about a fight breaking out at the bar, only to find the incident had nothing to do with the restaurant. The headline should have read "near" or "outside Buffalo Bill's" or some other qualifier. That headline went out in the alerts, not the actual story.

Autumn, headlines matter. I know you know this. I bothered to click on the headline and read it because I love Buffalo Bill's brewery and I was concerned that suddenly this happened there. Now, damage is done, regardless of how you choose to explain this poor decision away.

Autumn, I must agree with the other comments. Headlines matter and I expect Patch to have a greater local connection and sensitivity.
