Pedestrian Suffers Major Injuries After Hit-And-Run in San Lorenzo

Marelak Kierulf, 51, was crossing Hesperian Boulevard at Bockman Road Wednesday evening when a silver SUV struck her.

A woman was injured when she was struck by an SUV while crossing a street in San Lorenzo on Wednesday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Marelak Kierulf, 51, was crossing Hesperian Boulevard at Bockman Road in a crosswalk shortly after 8 p.m. when a vehicle making a left turn onto Hesperian hit her.          

A witness told CHP investigators that the vehicle was a silver SUV and had a green light, and that Kierulf had a walk signal.

Kierulf was knocked to the ground, and the SUV did not stop and continued north on Hesperian Boulevard, CHP officials said.

Keirulf suffered was transported to in Castro Valley. According to her brother, Butch Kierulf, his sister is still in the hospital and had suffered major injuries.

She had suffered a few broken bones in her pelvis and back. He told Patch Friday afternoon that she may undergo surgery because of this.

Butch said he hopes the suspect who hit his sister will take claim for his or her wrongdoing.

"All we want is for the person to come out," Butch said. "We are forgiving [people] but we want [the suspect] to answer to my sister."

The CHP is investigating the collision and is asking anyone with information about the incident to contact Officer Daniel Jacowitz at 510-581-9028.
