15-Year-Old Hospitalized After Being Struck By Car

Witnesses say the victim may have been a child.

Updated 1:39 p.m.

A 15-year-old boy riding a scooter was hospitalized after being hit by a car near Redwood and Seven Hills roads this morning, authorities said.

The incident occurred at about 8 a.m. while the boy was on his way to school at Castro Valley High School, according to CHP.

A 17-year-old, also on the way to school, was driving westbound on Seven Hills Road. The driver stopped for a red light and made a left turn onto Redwood Road when the light turned green but failed to see the boy in the crosswalk and struck him, a CHP official said.

The boy sustained minor injuries and is being treated at a local hospital.

Residents said that the accident snarled traffic in the area this morning.
